Dry deciduous forests, intermittent lakes, and large open meadows make it a wildlife photographer’s dream.

6. Kanha National Park
Located in: Mandla & Balaghat districts, Madhya Pradesh
Why famous?
Kanha is one of India’s standout tiger reserves and the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling’s "The Jungle Book". It’s home to rare Barasingha (swamp deer), Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, Indian wild dogs, and more than 300 bird species. The mix of sal forests, open meadows, and river valleys creates habitats where animals gather at waterholes, particularly in summer.
Best time to visit:
The park is open from mid-October to the end of June, closing in the monsoon (July-September). The sweet spot is October to March when mornings are cool, vegetation is thinner, and wildlife sightings are more frequent. Late spring (March-May) is hot, but animals come near water, so chances of spotting predators rise.
